Sex, Disability, and Aging
Working with folks in the realms of disability, aging, and pleasure is near and dear to my heart.
Pleasure is an important nutrient within our human experience. How pleasure arrives is different for each of us, as we are all unique individuals with unique experiences of what brings us joy. Regardless of how pleasure looks or feels, accessing and savouring pleasure is a critical part of our resilience and wellbeing - whether this is pleasure from sex and erotic touch, or from experiences of daily joy. In my work as a Somatic Sex Educator I aim to be a supportive ally with clients as they expand and enjoy the pleasure that is possible in their lives.
In my work with clients we may explore a variety of topics, including (but not exclusive to!):
how to create greater access and comfort for erotic practices
adapting sex toys, supports, and tools to assist in expanding pleasure possibilities
education about anatomy, the nervous system, arousal, and what creates erotic joy
visioning and strategizing support regarding clients’ sexual identities, wants, and desires
coaching about consent, boundaries, sexual communication and advocacy
trauma recovery bodywork and education
pelvic pain & numbness bodywork and education
scar tissue remediation
harnessing the erotic as a resource for physical, emotional, or spiritual grief / pain
whole-body bodywork for healing and/or pleasure
I arrive to this work with my own embodied experiences of sex and disability as someone living with Multiple Sclerosis. I also arrive with sex & disability training from the Institute for the Study of Somatic Sex Education. Beyond that, I also have 10 years of experience via my time as a worker/owner at Come As You Are. CAYA includes extensive sex & disability training (developed by Cory Silverberg - AASECT certified author of The Ultimate Guide to Sex and Disability) for all staff members and owners as part of their educational mandate. I also have offered 1-1 education and workshops to variety of people (clients, support workers, physicians, therapists, and more) seeking support in learning how to adapt toys and homes to be more pleasurably supportive, and how to arrive to the topic of sex & disability & aging with greater awareness and grace.
